25-10-2022 - Research presentation feedback - Karolina

Research presentation feedback nice layout Overview make keywords bold Background separation doesn't make sense here stick to the background, nothing else (similar products, how are they used...) Aims measurable things, what are we going to give to our client mostly talking about the app's functions (gamification, costs and benefits...) what form of digital solution? what the object is? has meaning to the user ->describe it better Objectives not "extensive" research put them in the right order (research, design, prototype, testing, report) how are we going to test it? what research? who's our target audience? - the key to the solution avoid vague words (hopefully, probably...) -> we will be Gamification put more pictures (not clipart) Other Applications not an educational app - not what the user asked for has to have meaning to the user User Engagement - Other Methods quality of the data, where's it from - remember the source User Engagement - Other Me...

18-10-2022 - Phil meeting & class notes - Zach

Attendance:   Zach, Manus, Kaja, Olivia Group leader:  Manus Feedback from Phil:  Asked about research, said some of the ideas were interesting and good to take forward. Said carbon footprint needs to be more direct and have something that we're looking for from it rather than just about it. Thought the smartwatch and maps research was interesting. Thought UI and UX research was interesting but needs to be less broad. To do for next week: Research and management presentation for Monday 24th October. 2 mins intro (aims, objectives, etc.) and 4 mins for all research done. 6 mins in total for presentation.

ViaMichelin Research - Manus

ViaMichelin provides a detailed journey cost for any car or motorcycle route: fuel cost (with details on fuel costs for motorways and other roads) and toll costs (information for each toll used). If you have entered your vehicle model, the cost will be calculated according to its consumption levels. ViaMichelin also enables you to spread the cost of your trip based on the number of people travelling, very useful for carpooling.

Manus - Research

Google Maps Google Maps uses machine learning in combination with various data sources including aggregate location data, historical traffic patterns, local government data, and real-time feedback from users, to predict traffic. Hypothetically our app will employ the same techniques. In my opinion it’s a textbook example of a highly functional yet easy to use app and the design does a lot of the heavy lifting. Here's the opening screen of Google Maps The app tells us -Our precise location on the map (if enabled) -A search bar (with an audio dictation and profile feature included) -Some buttons offering commonly searched amenities nearby -A tool for finding directions - A footer featuring some of the extended features By pressing the blue direction button you can enter a location that you want to travel to. By choosing one of the options you're given more specific time details. By swiping up you are shown the route on the map.        Google maps vs Apple maps A...

Project Proposal V1.3 - Zach

Media Business Project 2022- 23 Project Proposal             Team name   The Fantastic Four     Student names Zach Walsh Karolina Janusova Manus O ’ Keeffe Olivia Gavin   Project name   GoForIt   Version   V 1.3 Synopsis   We are going to create a digital solution that makes the user reconsider everyday choices on travelling and movement. We want to include gamification, as well as an educative factor that makes saving money and improving health and fitness fun.     Project aim   Our aim is to create is app where you enter a location you want to travel to. You are then offered a variety of travel options e.g. drive, walk or take public transport. Similar to Google maps each option will tell you how long it will take to travel to the ...

Brief - Zach

Go For It - Brief Create a digital solution to help people determine the costs and benefits of their every-day choices regarding personal travel/movement . This could be going to a local shop by car or walking. Or travelling further afield and the effect on the climate. Consider how gamification could be used to engage the user . Also consider how health and fitness could be included as part of the solution. It is important that the solution has meaning to the user and not just another app type product.

Notes reflecting on our Project Proposal presentation and also some other tips for future presentations: too much text on slides, don’t just read out the slides -> have keywords aims=the brief, objectives=what we’re going to do (research, testing…) reread the brief, underline the keywords rewrite the brief and include the solution no clipart ask questions recreate the presentation for next week  (same slides can be used for upcoming research/prototype presentations) Link to presentation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/14dSjaVyM06KkLr4bvX2Nc31SDdmB3HdXCq1rtyYAbrY/edit#slide=id.p

Carbon footprint (Research) The carbon footprint of transportation is measured in grams of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) equivalents emitted per person to travel one kilometer. This includes both carbon dioxide and other  greenhouse gases . Short flight or a drive alone are the most carbon-intensive methods of travel.  However, adding one more passenger to your car ends up cutting the  emissions  in half, making driving more efficient. (Therefore we want to avoid driving alone and suggest carpooling on our app to help reduce carbon footprint) Overall, the most efficient ways to travel are via walking, bicycle, or train, all modes of transport our app suggest and awards.  Carbon Footprint Reducing Apps  -   WWF My Footprint: Challenges to change your lifestyle  ( Some of the challenges include, “Set your dishwasher to eco mode,” “Go car-free for the day,” and “Adopt an animal.” It’s important to note that the challenges don’t directly offset ...

UX/UI Layout should be simple and consistent (simpler the layout happier the users) Be consistent The key to that is to think about your user first and always throughout the process Know your users What they need, and what stands in the way of them achieving their goals Sp eaking with them face to face, watching them use your product (and maybe others), and asking them questions that go deeper than, "What do you think of this design?" What are their goals? What stands in the way of them achieving those goals? How can a website help them overcome or work around those challenges? Get feedback Ensuring the user that the app is working the way they want Loading animation, buttons animation Make sure it's fast (Usability.gov defines any delay over 1 second as an interruption. Over 10 seconds, a disruption) Think carefully about element placement and size Make buttons and other “click targets” (like icons and text links) big enough to easily see and click Make the buttons for t...

Week 2-3 Research GAMIFICATION: Pokémon Go: Games such as Pokémon Go make users exercise by engaging them in capturing Pokémon by walking to locations in real life. This inspired people to walk/cycle to locations rather than drive which had multiple health benefits. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1875952121000082#:~:text=The%20results%20from%20our%20literature,reduced%20social%20anxiety%2C%20and%20openness. Zombies, Run!: This game engages you in exercise by telling you a compelling story through audio where you must run to certain areas to "collect" items to survive the zombie apocalypse. It is a fitness app that uses the storyline of a post-apocalyptic world where zombies are everywhere. It's another example of gamification that makes exercise fun, and more appealing than driving or taking public transport. https://blog.healthadvocate.com/2016/05/wellness-app-review-zombies-run/ CLIMATE APPS: NASA's Earth Now: NASA'...
